Wafer Head Screws: Applications in Stretch Ceiling and Steel Construction
Wafer head screws: applications in stretch ceiling installation and steel construction, types, dimensions,

A professional stretch ceiling installation requires far more than membrane and profiles. Platforms, reinforcing rings, harpoons, gaskets, angle brackets, spatulas, adhesives — dozens of components that determine the quality and durability of the finished installation. In this guide we review every accessory and tool category from a practitioner’s perspective: what, where and why to use each one.
Platforms are structural elements fixed to the structural ceiling before the membrane is stretched. They serve as a base for light fittings, chandeliers, fire sensors and any other elements that need to be mounted in the plane of the stretch ceiling.
| Platform type | Application | Height adjustment |
| Spotlight platform | LED spots, downlights, recessed spotlights | Yes (telescopic hanger) |
| Chandelier platform | Chandeliers, heavy pendant lights | Yes |
| Fire sensor platform | Smoke detectors, heat sensors | Yes |
| Mounting cross | Heavy chandeliers requiring 4-point fixing | Yes |
Platforms are mounted on adjustable hangers before the membrane is stretched. The underside of the platform must be levelled exactly at membrane height — tolerance: +/- 1 mm. After the membrane is tensioned, an opening is cut and a reinforcing ring is applied.

Rings are adhesive-bonded to the membrane to prevent tearing when openings are cut for lights, pipes and other penetrations. The ring defines the edge of the opening and transfers membrane tension to its own body.

Harpoons are flexible PVC tapes welded around the perimeter of the membrane. The harpoon locks into the profile groove, holding the membrane under tension. The harpoon system is the most widely used PVC membrane fixing method in Europe.
| Harpoon type | Colour | Application |
| G-1 white | White | Standard, for light-coloured membranes |
| G-1 grey | Grey | Standard, universal |
| TWIN SIDE | — | Double-sided, for separator profiles |
Profile gaskets conceal the gap between the mounting profile and the wall. After the membrane is tensioned a 3-8 mm gap remains between the profile and the wall. The decorative trim insert is pushed into the profile groove to close this gap and provide a clean finish.
Steel angle brackets are used to mount aluminium profiles offset from the wall — for example when creating recesses, niches or multi-level constructions. The bracket is fixed to the wall or ceiling, and the aluminium profile is screwed to the bracket with wafer head screws.
| Size | Application |
| 80 x 55 x 30 mm | Standard, for most constructions |
| 70 x 55 x 30 mm | Compact, for smaller niches |
| 80 x 50 x 30 mm | Shallower depth variant |
Stretch ceiling installation tools are specialist equipment that cannot be substituted with standard building tools. Key items in the installer’s kit:
| Tool | Function | Variants |
| Installation spatula | Inserting the harpoon into the profile groove | Universal, corner, straight wide |
| Gas heater | Heating PVC membrane to 60-70 °C | Stationary, portable |
| Rotary laser level | Setting the profile plane | Green beam (better visibility) |
| Membrane knife | Cutting openings for light fittings | Retractable blade |
Adhesives used in stretch ceiling installation fall into two categories:
Covers (diffusers) are transparent or opal snap-in strips for LED profiles. An opal diffuser disperses the LED strip light, eliminating visible light dots. A transparent diffuser delivers maximum luminous flux.
In the insulation and sealing category, Froth-Pak spray foam insulation is available — a two-component spray system for thermal and acoustic insulation of the cavity between the structural ceiling and the membrane. Particularly important in rooms above unheated garages and in attic spaces.
The following list covers all accessory categories needed for a standard stretch ceiling installation in a room with spot lighting:
Are all accessories in the 2K-Trade catalogue compatible with each other? Yes. Profiles, harpoons, gaskets and tools from 2K-Trade form a coherent mounting system. G-1 harpoons fit CLASSIC and COMFORT profiles; T-shape gaskets fit the same profile grooves.
How many reinforcing rings do I need per room? As many as there are openings in the membrane: one ring per LED spot, sensor, air conditioning pipe and any other penetration.
Can I buy a gas heater from 2K-Trade? Gas heaters are not part of the standard catalogue. Contact the sales team to check availability.
How long does a harpoon hold the membrane in the profile? PVC harpoon retains its elasticity and holding force for the entire membrane lifespan (15-25 years). The harpoon system allows the membrane to be removed and reinstalled multiple times.
Which spatulas are essential for a basic ceiling installation? Minimum: a straight wide spatula (for straight runs) and a corner spatula (for internal corners). For complex constructions a universal spatula is also useful.
A complete stretch ceiling accessory kit spans dozens of product categories — from structural elements (platforms, angle brackets, screws), through installation materials (harpoons, gaskets, adhesives), to specialist tools (spatulas, heaters). All the components listed above are available in the 2K-Trade accessories catalogue, enabling single-source order consolidation.
