Are you looking for FROTH and wondering what is behind this mysterious acronym? In the construction market, it is synonymous with the original Froth-Pak insulation foam – a mobile spray system for quickly creating airtight thermal and acoustic insulation. In this article, we look exclusively at the original products offered in 180, 600 and 1900 litre packs. You will learn the difference between Quick Rise (fast expansion) and Slow Rise (slow expansion) versions, user reviews and how to work safely with two-component PUR foam.
Froth-Pak is a system of two pressurised cylinders with an isocyanate and a polyol component, which mix in a spray gun to form a rigid polyurethane foam. The manufacturer emphasises that the new formulation based on HFO gases has a very low greenhouse effect potential. The kits are designed for quick insulation – you heat the cylinders, connect them to the gun and spray the foam without external compressors. The foam has a lambda coefficient of 0.022 W/(m-K), which is among the best results on the market. The R-value is approximately 0.45 m²-K/W for every cm of thickness. This is why even an essentially thin layer provides high thermal protection.
Our every kit in the 2K-trade Froth-Pak shop contains two disposable (or in the 1,900 version – reusable). The important thing is that the tanks, hoses, spray gun and nozzle set for different applications. The white conical nozzles allow for standard spraying, the blue ones give a thin coat, the green ones fill scratches and cracks and the black ones are used for pouring foam into large cavities. The nozzles are mounted on the spray gun and ensure even mixing of the components. There are two formulations to choose from: Quick Rise (QR) – fast expansion, and Slow Rise (SR) – slow expansion. The QR version cures to the touch in as little as 30 seconds and reaches full strength after about 5 minutes. The SR version takes 60 seconds to reach shape and about 8 minutes to fully cure, allowing the foam to better fill closed spaces.
High insulation efficiency. This is because, thanks to its low lambda value and high R-value, Froth-Pak foam offers better insulation than traditional materials. As much as 95 % of the structure is closed cells, which provides resistance to moisture and reduces the formation of condensation.
Quick installation without equipment. You don’t need a compressor or electricity to work – you heat the cylinders, connect the hoses and spray the foam. The Quick Rise version cures in as little as 5 minutes, significantly reducing construction time.
Universal application. The foam adheres to most materials, including wood, concrete, steel, gypsum board and masonry, with the exception of some plastics such as PE film or PTFE. It is waterproof and can be used in cryogenic insulation.
Flexible formulation choice. Rapid expansion (QR) works well for surface insulation – walls, roofs or attics. Slow Expansion (SR) is for filling voids, such as in steel structures or in the OEM industry.
Eco-friendly formulation. The new formulation uses HFO gas instead of HFCs, reducing the impact on global warming. The foam does not contain formaldehyde or ozone-depleting substances.
The table below summarises the key parameters of the three standard Froth-Pak kits. The data is taken from the original Fomicom manufacturer’s website.
| Packaging | Type | Volume of expanded foam | Set volume | Area at 5 cm | Gross weight | Application |
| Froth-Pak 180 | one-off | 375-430 l | ≈ 0,4 m³ | ≈ 8 m² | ~17 kg | Small projects and repairs, insulation of windows and thermal bridges |
| Froth-Pak 600 | one-off | 1250-1430 l | ≈ 1,3 m³ | ≈ 26 m² | ~25 kg | Medium investments – roofs, attics, walls |
| Froth-Pak 1900 | reusable | 3900-4500 l | ≈ 4,2 m³ | ≈ 84 m² | ~95 kg | Large commercial projects, halls, cold stores; refillable |
In the 180 and 600 packs, there is a choice of both formulations (QR or SR), while the 1900 kit usually comes as a multi-use system with fast or slow expansion. The manufacturer also offers a mini kit (25-35 l), but in this article we focus on the standard kits.
Quick Rise vs Slow Rise {#quick-vs-slow}
Quick Rise (QR) – the foam reaches its target volume in 30 seconds and is dry to the touch after 30 seconds; full cure occurs in about 5 minutes. Thanks to this rapid course, the application process is ideal on vertical and horizontal surfaces: walls, attics, ceilings. QR is mainly used in residential construction, where speed and the ability to apply several thin layers are important.
Slow Rise (SR) – the foam takes approximately 60 seconds to take shape and completely dries in 8 minutes. The longer reaction time allows the mass to flow freely in confined spaces, which is why SR is used in injection moulding for walls, suspended ceilings, industry and manufacturing (OEM). Pressure must be controlled during injection moulding to avoid deformation of the structure.
| Parameter | Quick Rise | Slow Rise |
| Time to shape | ~30 s | ~60 s |
| Full curing | 5 min | 8 min |
| Applications | Surface insulation – roofs, walls, ceilings | Confined space filling, injection |
| Advantages | Fast working speed, multilayer application possible | Precise filling, less risk of voids |
| Disadvantages | Short working hours require experience | Longer setting time and possibility of overexpansion |

Is Froth-Pak foam flammable? Like any organic product, the cured foam will burn in a direct fire, but it does not support the flame – once the source of the fire is removed, the burning stops. The product has a Euro Class E classification.
What are the safety rules? The manufacturer recommends reading the safety data sheet (MSDS). Use protective clothing, goggles and mask, ensure good ventilation and keep cylinders at working temperature.
Does the foam adhere to any material? Froth-Pak bonds to most substrates: wood, metal, concrete, plaster. However, it does not adhere to polyethylene (PE) and Teflon (PTFE), so the films must be removed before spraying.
How do I calculate the amount of foam needed? The manufacturer suggests a simple algorithm: area (m²) × insulation thickness (l/m²) = litres of foam. For example, a roof with an area of 100 m² and a required thickness of 8 cm (R≈3.6) requires 8,000 litres of foam – for such a project, it is worth considering a 1900 kit with complementary mini-kits.
Is the foam water and frost resistant? The foam contains more than 95 per cent closed cells and is waterproof. It remains stable at temperatures from -150 °C to +100 °C, which allows for use in refrigeration and cryogenics.
How long can the kit be stored? Disposable bottles have a shelf life of approximately 15 months from the date of manufacture. After this time, the ingredients may lose their properties.
Pros:
Minuses:
What is the insulation value of Froth-Pak? The lambda coefficient is 0.022 W/(m-K) and R≈0.45 m² K/W per 1 cm. This gives the foam one of the highest insulation values in its class.
What is included in the GHA kit? The gun and hose kit (GHA) includes a spray gun, 9 ft, 15 ft or 30 ft hoses, nozzles, spanner and technical petroleum jelly. The components can be cleaned and reused.
Is Froth-Pak compliant with EPB standards? Yes. The manufacturer states that the higher insulation factor compared to traditional insulation helps to meet the Energy Performance of Buildings (EPB) requirements.
How much foam to choose – 180, 600 or 1900? The choice depends on the area and thickness of the insulation. For small renovations, a set of 180 is sufficient (approx. 8 m² at 5 cm), for medium-sized renovations – 600 (approx. 26 m²), and for large projects and industrial applications – 1900 (approx. 84 m²).
What is the use of heating coatings? Heating coatings maintain the required cylinder temperature (24 °C) in a cool environment, which improves foaming performance.
Froth-Pak insulation foam is the professional solution for quick insulation and sealing of buildings. The 180, 600 and 1900 kits differ in volume, weight and refillability, but each is based on the same eco-friendly formula with very good insulation performance. Choosing between Quick Rise and Slow Rise allows you to match the rate of expansion to the type of project. Remember to prepare thoroughly, wear personal protective equipment and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations before starting work. Properly applied, Froth-Pak foam will provide durable and airtight insulation even in hard-to-reach areas.
